Kim Anthony-Morrow

Founding Publisher, Urban Business Journal,
Author, The Founder's Formula™: The Essential Guide to Building, Scaling, and Succeeding as an Entrepreneur, and Champion for Entrepreneurship as the Pathway to Economic Mobility

Kim Anthony-Morrow fell in love with entrepreneurship out of necessity. Emancipated from the foster care system as a teenager, she had no safety net, no family support, and no available jobs that could provide the stability she desperately needed. With survival as her motivator, she turned to entrepreneurship—creating her own opportunities when none existed. That pivotal decision became the foundation of her life’s work: championing Entrepreneurship as the Pathway to Economic Mobility for others facing similar challenges.

With over three decades of dedicated service in business growth and economic development advocacy, Kim Anthony-Morrow is the Founding Publisher of the Urban Business Journal, a premier platform empowering small, diverse, and disadvantaged businesses. She has made it her mission to equip entrepreneurs with the resources, networking opportunities, and knowledge essential to thriving in today’s competitive market.

A visionary leader and staunch advocate for supplier diversity, Anthony-Morrow currently serves as Vice President of the Black Business Association, where she previously directed membership, special projects, and community initiatives focused on driving economic empowerment. Through her leadership, she has influenced policies, programs, and partnerships that have expanded access to capital, procurement opportunities, and strategic support for historically excluded businesses.

Recognized as a 2024 Success Magazine Changemaker Award Honoree, Anthony-Morrow’s journey is a testament to the power of resilience and self-determination. Her relentless pursuit of personal growth and entrepreneurship transformed her own life, and now, she dedicates herself to mentoring others—particularly those in under-resourced communities. Honoring her promise to become the mentor she wished she’d had, she established the Urban Excellence Institute, a pioneering training company offering world-class transformational education to those who need it most.

Kim is most proud of using her launch and development framework in providing individual coaching and consulting to more than 520 mission-driven businesses across 31 states. To extend her reach to impact even more people she launched Urban Excellence Coaching Academy,  which has since been accredited as Level One coach education provider by the International Coach Federation, the Gold Standard for coach education and accreditation worldwide.

Through her initiatives—spanning business, nonprofit leadership, and personal development—Kim Anthony-Morrow continues to be a champion for entrepreneurs, inspiring new generations of entrepreneurs and leaders to take ownership of their future, build lasting legacies, and create economic mobility for themselves and their communities.

She currently serves as the Vice President of the Black Business Association; a graduate of the USC Bridges to Business Program; Leadership Development in Interethnic Relations (LDIR); the California Black Women Leaderships Institute; the Los Angeles Women's Public Policy Institute; the Urban Philanthropy Institute; and a C2 Leadership Fellow.
